Explore Whether This Is a Fit

Why I use these tools

After many years working with people navigating stress, overwhelm, anxiety, burnout, trauma, and chronic health challenges, I became interested in approaches that support regulation without requiring people to think harder, analyse more, or force change.

The Safe and Sound Protocol and Rest and Restore Protocol are two of the tools I use for that purpose. They work at the physiological level — through sound — and they don't ask anything of the intellect. For people who have already done a great deal of work on themselves and are tired of approaches that feel like more effort, that tends to matter.

My background includes nearly two decades of clinical work supporting people through stress, burnout, trauma, and chronic health challenges — which means I'm holding the full picture of what's happening in the body alongside the nervous system work itself.

What are SSP and RRP?

Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

The SSP uses specially filtered music to gently retune the auditory system — training it to better detect the frequencies of human voice that signal safety. Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges from Polyvagal Theory, it supports a shift in the nervous system from a defensive state toward greater regulation and social engagement.

It is not a relaxation playlist. The filtering is precise, the delivery is structured, and the effects can be significant enough that practitioner presence throughout is considered best practice.

Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP)

The RRP uses purpose-composed soundscapes grounded in homeostatic entrainment — a behavioural neuroscience framework — to guide the nervous system back toward internal balance and physiological rest. It supports the shift from stress and fatigue toward steadiness, digestive ease, and deeper capacity to settle.

RRP is often used after SSP, once the nervous system has some increased capacity for safety. The two protocols work well in sequence.

Both protocols are delivered through the Unyte Health app, which clients download to their phone or device. Over-ear headphones are required. Noise-cancelling headphones are not recommended.

Who this may support

These protocols may be helpful for adults experiencing:

  • Chronic stress
  • Anxiety or hypervigilance
  • Burnout or exhaustion
  • Difficulty settling or resting
  • Sleep disruption
  • Trauma history or PTSD
  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Feeling constantly "on"
  • Digestive sensitivity
  • Nervous system recovery

These protocols are not appropriate for everyone. During our initial conversation, we'll discuss whether SSP or RRP is a good fit for your current situation.

How we work together

Every session is structured around 30 minutes of guided listening, with check-in time before and after. The container is 10 weeks, but the pace is determined by your nervous system — not a fixed schedule.

What makes this different?

Thousands of practitioners offer SSP. What varies is how it's delivered.

I am present with you for every listening session — not as a monitor, but as a co-regulator. When something surfaces during a session, we're already together. We can slow down, pause, anchor, and notice what's happening in your body in real time. You don't leave a session carrying unprocessed activation.

  • Intake form and review before we begin — so the first session can go directly to what matters
  • Weekly 1:1 sessions via video call — 30 minutes of guided listening, with check-in time before and after
  • Individual pacing — the container is 10 weeks, but the rhythm is determined by your nervous system's actual capacity, not a fixed schedule
  • Co-regulated listening — I am present throughout every session, not waiting on standby
  • Direct messaging access between sessions — for anything that arises in the days between
  • Closing reflection — at the end of the programme, we discuss what shifted and what may support continued regulation

What this is not

This is not therapy, counselling, or psychotherapy. It is not a diagnostic service and does not treat or cure any condition. SSP and RRP are evidence-informed listening therapies that support nervous system regulation — they are intended as a complement to other care, not a replacement for it.

This is not a self-directed programme. The protocols are delivered with my full presence. That is a deliberate choice, not a default.

This is not covered by insurance.

Many people arrive here after years of reading, learning, healing, processing, and trying to understand what is happening in their bodies.

SSP and RRP are different. They do not ask you to figure anything out. They ask only that your nervous system be given the conditions to respond.

About Candice

I'm a Naturopathic and Functional Medicine Doctor with nearly two decades of clinical experience. My background includes trauma-informed care, bioenergetics, and nervous system support — which means SSP and RRP fit naturally into a broader understanding of what the body is doing and why.

I am certified in both the Safe and Sound Protocol and the Rest and Restore Protocol through Unyte-iLs. I work remotely with adults in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Questions

Is this therapy or counselling?

No. SSP and RRP are listening therapies that support nervous system regulation. They are not psychotherapy and do not involve psychological treatment or diagnosis.

Do I need a diagnosis to participate?

No. Many people who benefit from these protocols have no formal diagnosis. During our initial conversation, we'll talk through your situation and whether this is a good fit.

Can I do this from home?

Yes. All sessions are delivered remotely via video call. You'll need the Unyte Health app (free to download) and a pair of over-ear headphones. I'll walk you through setup before we begin.

Is it covered by insurance?

No. These programmes are not covered by insurance and receipts are not provided for insurance purposes.

What if I become overwhelmed during a session?

This is why I'm present throughout every session rather than leaving you to listen independently. If something surfaces, we slow down, pause, or stop — whatever your nervous system needs. The pace is always determined by your capacity, not the protocol's default.

How long before I notice something?

This varies considerably between people. Some notice shifts within the first few sessions; for others, changes become clearer over several weeks or after the programme ends. There is no standard timeline.
